About SSSC
Ingredients Commitment
SSSC products are made of 100% recyclable components. The soy wax does not contain fillers; it's completely all natural. Soy melts much slower than paraffin, so the candles last longer (burn times ~ 65-90 hours for my candles). And the wicks (ECO-wicks) burn at a lower temperature, thereby producing very little soot and lasting longer. Your purchases aid American soybean farmers indirectly by keeping me in business (not to mention UPS and the USPS, Ha!). My scent oils are considered to be skin-safe by my suppliers. Phthalates often get a bad rap--they're sometimes an ingredient in cosmetics and other beauty products. Still, I've selected fragrances that do not contain them for those who are unsure about potential ill-effects. The containers are made for candles, so they are sturdy and safe. All of this selectivity has been done to ensure that you, the customer, know that I've done all in my power to provide a safe product.
Wax Frosting
The soy I use does a thing called FROSTING. With frosting, some areas are lighter, some darker, but generally the same color all over, and some don't frost at all. Frosting goes away as the container warms, just like real frost does on a cold frosted glass. There are many websites that teach about how to remove it, but I love it. It adds uniqueness to the candles, a sort of paisley effect, if you will. So the Eucalyptus & Thyme shown below on the right side has a some frosting, but in the same pour, they can have very little like the one on the left. Frosting does not affect candle melting nor burn times.
Why Botanical Scents?
I studied and taught plant biology for 20 years, so specializing in botanical scents just seemed like the natural route to go. I started SSSC about 10 years ago, and at first I was so excited about it that I was all over the place; my workspace was a mess. I just had to do it all. I had about 8 different containers and 30 fragrances. But I've learned. With those revelations came streamlining. I learned which containers and fragrances are most appealing, both visually and aromatically. Also, with so many thousands of candlemaking-hours under my belt, my recipes are now fool-proof, the colors are beautiful, and the fragrances are astounding.
Candle Safety & Memory Burn
Please be sure to follow the safety guidelines for candle placement that are located on the base of the candle. Especially keep in mind children & pets, any nearby combustible materials, a stable surface, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
In addition, you should know about conducting a memory burn. Inside the candle, there is a sliver of paper that teaches you how to prevent the phenomenon of tunneling that makes your candle melt incorrectly, forming a tunnel and becoming difficult to relight.
